The Best Cafes in Greenwich Village

Yes, we love New York City. We love every inch of this micro-universe hiding in plain sight. We love its eccentricity, boasting persona, and that evergreen vibe—Earth's capital of wanderers and wonders. And just like any other organism, it has a beating heart - you guessed it, it's Greenwich Village. The Bohemian Capital remains, until this day, one of the most significant landmarks in the U.S. The womb of American democracy, counterculture movement, artists' haven, urban microcosmos, and a place where a distant traveler consumed with diversity may finally rest and call it home. Not much has changed since the last century. Its gates are still wide open, and evolution, creativity, and human rights are still the name of the game. Let's grab a cup of New York's finest and chat. Enjoy our best cafes in Greenwich Village.

Where to go

The Village takes pride in accommodating the diverse needs of its residents and visitors. Every living soul (and that's about 8 billion of them) would and will find that one spot that ticks all the boxes. Disappointment is off the table (cafe pun).

Caffe Reggio

Located at 119 Macdougal Street, Caffe Reggio is known as the herald of America's incoming coffee ingenuity craze. Opened in 1927 by an Italian immigrant, Domenico Parisi, it was the first cafe ever to serve the glorious cappuccino - and the rest is history. Jack Kerouac and other prominent writers considered this Rennaisance Italy shrine their creativity portal; today's aspiring novelists and poets enjoy the same ritual - and that's precisely why Greenwich Village is on any NYC home buyer's checklist. It's a time machine (but don't tell anyone).

Banter

This beautiful Aussie spot is something to add to your Village rotation. With tons of natural light and delicious food, Banter has been marauding people's hearts since 2016: affordable, cozy, calm atmosphere and excellent music selection. With plenty of healthy options, breakfast and/or brunch will not leave you feeling disappointed. If you're visiting, don't miss out on Nutella french toast, Banter Bowl, and the Golden Folded Eggs (Avocado toast - goes without saying). And if you've decided to experience New York City in Autumn, fear not - there's outdoor seating with heaters. 169 Sullivan St; check it out.

Outro NYC

There are plenty of reasons to love and visit Outro cafe, the first being direct-trade beans (one of the few places in the city that brews Counter Culture beans). If you ask the locals about this cozy little gem, they'll probably tell you it's one of their favorite spots for getting some work done while indulging in earthly delights. Large tables are great for meetings and studying; the patio is just incredible. Outro nyc is famous for its variety of waffles and low-key atmosphere. The legend has it - taro coffee is the bomb. If you like what you're reading, head to 816 Broadway and witness greatness in person.

O Cafe

Speaking of the best cafes in Greenwich Village, have you heard of this hidden gem? Locals, refrain from raising your hands. This New York City nook is known for its Brazilian cheese bread, but that's just the icing on the cake. We all know New Yorkers aren't that keen on providing the best customer service, but when at O's, seamless customer experience is mandatory. If you're interested in some top-tier food and staff, you've opened the right door. Whatever your order - frittata, coconut rice veggie curry, or polenta cake - prepare to get amazed. 482 6th Ave, New York, NY

NewsBar Cafe

Whether you've popped by for a quick freelancer session or are just in the mood for a homemade breakfast accompanied by a relaxing chanson, NewsBar is your embracing host. They take pride in its cozy atmosphere and eagle-eye attention to detail when crafting a perfect meal. The cafe means business. Gluten-free and dairy-free options are also available for all of us, gentle snowflakes. Although it can get pretty busy, finding a seat will (almost) never be a problem. Goat cheese/beets sandwich and jalapeno cheddar biscuit sandwich are simply a must! 107 University Pl; stop by any time.

Bus Stop Cafe

Slipping this place is a sin for any Village visitor. This charming corner place (597 Hudson St) has been around forever. You will find its immaculate menu saliva-inducing and your wallet - exhaling with relief. We love their brunch special - free coffee and a cocktail with your entree. The staff keeps the place buzzing while old Fitzgerald and Sinatra tunes keep the atmosphere light and incredibly welcoming. Be sure to give Cesar's salad with anchovies a chance! Russian Panini and grilled chicken and goat cheese wrap are a supreme delight.

Places like this are exactly why people decide to move to a new city. If you're only visiting, be warned - you will have no other option but to make NYC your home after a trip like this (at least for a little bit).

Stumptown Coffee Roasters

30 W 8th St - look no further for that perfect cup you're quietly yearning for. Just a short walk from Washington Square Park, this old-timey cafe offers a superior coffee experience. Stumptown Coffee Roasters takes pride in inclusivity, and the rainbow galore is there to prove it. Despite being dangerously close to NYU, it's far from what you'd call a (student) beehive. Drop by and watch some of the finest NYC baristas serve top-notch beans extravaganza (Hairbender being an all-time favorite). Hot brew - cold brew; one cannot go wrong. Nitro cold brew is the stuff.

Mille-Feuille Bakery

Love goes through the stomach, right? We can't think of a better Greenwich Village introduction. Located at 552 LaGuardia Pl, right next to Washington Square Park, this utterly charming and delightful shop should most definitely be your must-stop on your way to the park. French-style picnic? Don't mind if I do. Whether you go for quiche Lorraine or almond croissants, you can't go wrong with Mille-Feuille's petite pastries. Or - you can sign up for their macaroon baking class and thank yourself later.
